Became a Youth Hostel warden (the youngest in Britain at the time).
Had a wonderful time running Tintagel and Plymouth hostels, but got restless and wanted to do designing again.

Did a post grad course in ‘Play equipment design and manufacture’ at the London College of Furniture.
Was enthused to design for people with special needs by Lesley Moreland (the then director of the National Toy Libraries Association)

Carried out five years research and design for the ‘Play and leisure needs of people with special needs at Leybourne Grange Hospital. (A research post created by myself and funded by the South East Thames Regional Health Authority).

  • Member of The Toy Libraries Associations National Committees
  • Member of the Design Council Toy Selection Panel
  • Founder member of ’Active’, (an organisation to make designs of very specific equipment freely available for people with special needs)
  • Consultant and designer for ‘Four to Eight’, (a Reckitt and Coleman company).
  • Designed for Galt, Sangria (Tactic constructive play System) Johnson and Johnson, BBC radio and others
  • Consultant designer for Rompa (when the company was first founded). Designed their Soft play system. Designed and installed their first ‘Snoezelen’ rooms and a wide range of sensory products. This included their flagship project at Whittington Hall
